Defense Lifts Lady Yotes to 68-42 Win Over OIT

CALDWELL, Idaho - A stifling first half defensive effort help The College of Idaho build a 24-point halftime lead, as the Lady Yotes routed Oregon Tech, 68-42, in a Cascade Conference women's match-up inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Yotes (7-5, 2-1 CCC) held OIT to 4-for-24 shooting in the opening half, forcing 14 turnovers along the way. Laura Geis had seven early points in a 13-0 run, as The C of I jumped out to a 15-2 lead. Katelin Shannon added a driving lay-up and a three-pointer in a 13-1 surge to build a 27-5 lead with with seven minutes left in the half, settling for a 35-11 lead at the break.

The C of I put the game away early in the second half, opening the frame on a 16-4 run, keyed by six Geis points - pushing the margin to 59-20 on a Diamond Mitchell runner with 12 minutes to play.

Geis led all scorers with 19 points and three blocked shots, with Felicity Jones adding 11 points and four assists. Meghan Hughes had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds in the win, with Shannon and Kylie Hardison each adding eight points.

OIT (11-2, 2-1), which had a seven-game win streak snapped, got 13 points from Kassi Conditt, shot just 16-of-54 on the night - making 1-of-15 attempts from outside the arc.

The Lady Yotes return to action tomorrow night, hosting Southern Oregon at 5:30 p.m.
