Felicity Jones had 14 points in C of I win
Felicity Jones scored 14 points to pace The College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes held on for a 63-56 victory over Southern Oregon inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (8-5, 3-1 CCC) built a 47-25 second half lead on a Dayna Drager bucket with 12 minutes to play, but made just one field goal over a nearly 10 minute stretch, as the Raiders made a furious rally – cutting the margin to 59-56 on a Haley Newell long deuce with three minutes to play. However, The C of I defense clamped down, as SOU (10-5, 1-3) missed their final eight field goal attempts and had two turnovers down the stretch.
For the second-straight night, the Yotes used a dominating first half to take a 15-point lead to the locker room. An early 12-0 run gave C of I a 12-2 lead, before a Newell triple got Southern within 14-13. Drager jumpstarted a 16-2 Coyote run with a triple, as the hosts took a 34-19 lead at the break.
The Yotes won despite 13-of-27 shooting from the foul line, using a 56-43 edge on the glass in their seventh-straight win over SOU. Drager had 10 points off the bench, with Meghan Hughes and Tina Fakahafua combining for 23 rebounds.
Newell led SOU with 21 points and five rebounds, with Nalani Hernandez adding 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
The C of I returns to action after the Christmas Break, traveling to Northwest and Evergreen on Dec. 29-30.
