EUGENE, Ore. – Jessalyn Jackson scored 28 points and had 20 rebounds for Northwest University on Monday night as the Eagles knocked off Northwest Christian on the road, 68-58.
NCU head coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “It’s frustrating to have a game like this after a great week of practice. We’ve been communicating so well, but that didn’t show up tonight. I didn’t recognize the team that played out there today.”
Northwest dominated play inside, scoring 42 points in the paint and out-rebounded NCU, 59-30. The Eagles turned 27 offensive rebounds into 29 second-chance points to overcome 20 turnovers and 35% shooting.
Jackson had a stellar performance, shooting 12-for-19 for her 28 points. She flirted with a triple-double as she added 20 rebounds (15 offensive), seven blocks and five assists. Northwest Christian University Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “On any night Jessalyn can throw a triple-double. She’s a force in the paint, there’s no way around it. It’s really hard for us to duplicate what she gives her team in our practices."
The Eagles (6-4, 2-0 CCC) also had a 13-point night from Domi Mendezona, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Carol Howard scored nine points in the win.
Northwest Christian (8-7, 0-3 CCC) was led once again by Lindsey Shearer who scored 19 points to go along with team-highs of eight rebounds, seven steals, four assists, and two blocks. Kelsey Atkins was the only other Beacon in double figures with ten, shooting 2-for-2 from three-point range.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday night. Northwest travels to Salem to take on Corban University while NCU stays at home to face Evergreen. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 pm tip-offs.
