SALEM, Ore. – Thanks to a quick 11-0 run to start the game, Corban's women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to three games thanks to a 63-51 win despite a late charge by Evergreen Monday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

With tonight's win, Corban extends its season-high winning streak to three games en route to improving to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference games. Meanwhile, Evergreen falls to 1-10 on the season and 0-2 in league play.

Senior Katie Steigleman and junior Emily Tsugawa combined to score 33 points, as the senior co-captain registered a game-high 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field to go along with Tsugawa's 14-point effort. Freshman Tara Vanweerdhuizen grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while Tsugawa dished out a game-high tying four assists.

The game would begin with Corban scoring the first 11 points and keeping Evergreen off the scoreboard until the 13:36 mark, as the visiting Geoducks began shooting 0-for-11 from the field. By the time that Evergreen got on the scoreboard, the host Warriors had already built an 11-point lead (13-2) thanks to a Steigleman jumper with 13:17 remaining. The host Warriors would continue to apply the pressure, as Corban pushed its lead to 20-plus points (28-7) following a Tsugawa lay-in with 8:03 left. Evergreen could not crack the Warriors' high-powered offense, as Corban grabbed a 23-point advantage (42-19) at halftime thanks to a three-pointer by freshman Haley Holboke that capped the first half scoring.

In the second half, Corban would continue to hold a 20-plus point lead over the opening 12-plus minutes before going ice cold from the field following a jumper by junior Tess Bennett with 7:50 left. Despite allowing two points on back-to-back Tsugawa free throws at the 6:03 mark, Evergreen used an 8-0 run over a span of five minutes to pull within 10 points (57-47) before Corban snapped a five-plus minute scoring drought and held on for a 12-point win (63-51).

Evergreen was led offensively by Jessica Edge with a team-high 16 points, while Danielle Swain and Sami Clark added nine and seven points, respectively. Swain also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for the Geoducks, while Clark dished out a team-high four assists.

As a team, Corban combined to shoot 22-for-60 (36.7%) from the field to go along with a 5-for-14 (35.7%) showing from beyond the three-point arc and a 14-for-17 (82.4%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Evergreen was 22-for-77 (28.6%) from the field, 4-for-14 (28.6%) from long distance, and 3-for-6 (50.0%) at the charity stripe.

Corban and Evergreen will close out their pre-Christmas schedule tomorrow evening – Tuesday, December 20th – with the Warriors hosting Northwest and the Geoducks continuing their road trip in Eugene against Northwest Christian. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m.
