BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – 4th ranked Davenport University hit 10 three point baskets on their way to a 81-60 win over Warner Pacific College tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.

The host Knights hung with last season’s NAIA Championship runner up for much of the first half, building a 27-17 lead with 6:21 to play in the opening period. Davenport proceeded to hit a trio of three point shots on an 11-0 run to take a 28-27 lead. Kelsey Mattsen broke free for a layup to break the dry spell for WP, but the Panthers continued to shoot with accuracy led by Carrie Grubius’ four makes from distance and took a 40-33 lead into the locker room.

In the opening minutes of the second period, Warner Pacific closed to within four (44-40) after a three point play from Layne Tucker, but another burst from DU – this time a 15-0 run – put the game out of reach. The shots did not fall for the Knights in the second period, as the team found the range on just 10 of 30 tries. Davenport on the other hand, continued to shoot well (46 percent for the game) and were able to pull away down the stretch.

Mattsen scored 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting to lead the Knights. Cam Calhoun and Chelsey Christensen added 11 points each, and Nichole Jackson dished out seven assists in her first game back from injury.

Grubius finished with a game high 20 points for Davenport. Karlee Despres contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.

Warner Pacific falls to 7-6 overall, while Davenport improves to 11-2.
