EUGENE, Ore. – For the third straight year, the Northwest Christian University men's basketball team headed out to the St. Vincent de Paul Society's Linholm Center on Highway 99 North on Tuesday to help assemble and distribute food baskets to Eugene residents in need.
Head Coach Corey Anderson said, “Each year, this event is a great way for our guys to see some 'real life' situations while having the opportunity to serve their community. St. Vincent DePaul's is a great bridge that helps people back on their feet and Betty "The Turkey Lady" Snowden is an amazing spokesperson for this annual event that serves hundreds of needy families."
The Catholic charity organization's annual Turkey Drive, which dates back to the early 1950's, provides up to 3,000 holiday food boxes, including turkey, bread, fruits & vegetables, baking goods, and pre-cooked chickens for those without stoves. The agency spends the entire year raising money and collecting enough food for the agency's oldest event.
