During his three years as head women's volleyball coach at Corban, Nels Norquist helped the Warriors finish in the top half of the conference each year.
Norquist Steps Down as Head Coach at Corban University
SALEM, Ore. – As announced Thursday by Corban University's Director of Athletics, Dave Johnson, head women's volleyball coach Nels Norquist has decided to step down for his position effective immediately in order to pursue other coaching opportunities closer to home.
"I am very thankful for my time at Corban and the people I got to share it with," said Norquist. "Corban has a very distinct atmosphere and purpose that I was proud to be a part of. The time has come for a change that I hope will benefit both parties. My wife and I are hoping for something closer to home, but are excited for whatever direction God takes us."
Over the past three seasons, Norquist has guided Corban's women's volleyball team to within striking distance of qualifying for the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs each year. Norquist compiled a win-loss record of 34-39 overall that included a 24-30 mark in league matches during his time as leader of the Warriors.
Norquist's four-year head coaching career that includes one year at former CCC member Cascade College in 2008 before the school closed its doors has resulted in an overall record of 42-58 and 27-47 in league matches.
Prior to the fall of 2009, Norquist took over a Corban program that had posted back-to-back seasons with a win-loss record of 12-14 that included 10-10 in CCC play each year. During his time as the leader of the Warriors, Norquist continued to keep Corban near the top of the conference and coached an All-CCC first-team member each season.
"We will miss Nel's witness for the Lord and his technical expertise in volleyball," said Johnson. "Corban is praying the Lord provides a coaching position close to his home."
A national search for Corban's next head women's volleyball coach will begin immediately. If interested, please send a cover letter, resume, statement of faith, and three references to Dave Johnson via email at djohnson@corban.edu.
