George Fox Remains Undefeated with 72-42 Win over Cavs

PORTLAND, Ore.—Behind a near triple double from All-American Hannah Munger, George Fox defeated Concordia 72-42 in non-conference women’s basketball action on Tuesday night.
The win avenged a loss to the Cavaliers last season as Concordia defeated GFU 84-64 in a battle of teams that went on to win their respective conference tournaments and go on to national tournament play.
The Bruins, ranked No. 3 in NCAA DIII, improved to 11-0 on the season with their last five wins all by more than 20-point margins. Meanwhile, Concordia fell to 4-10 with the loss.
Hunger, a returning third-team All-American, flirted with registering a triple double as the junior scored a game-high 25 points and added nine rebounds and eight of the team’s school-record 14 blocks on the night.
George Fox limited the Cavs to just 28.6 percent shooting on the night and took an early double-digit lead just six minutes into the game with the score 19-9. The Bruins would go up by as many as 19 points in the first half before CU closed strong with Rachel Scarpelli scoring seven of her team-high 13 points in the waning minutes.
The Cavs closed the gap to 15 points midway through the second but GFU finished the game with a 27-12 spurt to close out the home team.
Both teams struggled to keep control of the ball as the squads combined for 49 turnovers, including 29 for the Cavs. The Bruins were also hurt at the line after converting just 10-of-25 attempts for a 40 percent rate. The Cavs generated only eight attempts, making five for a 62.5 conversion rate.
The Cavs will next take the floor on December 29 when they travel to face Southern Oregon University in Ashland for a a return the conference play. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
