BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. – Traevone Bowie scored 22 points including six three point field goals to lead #17 Warner Pacific to a 87-51 win over College of Idaho tonight in the Cascade Conference opening game for both squads.

The newly named “Bart Valentine Court” at C.C. Perry Gym was dedicated before the game with a presentation from athletic director Ryan Kaiser and academic dean Dr. Cole Dawson, in honor of the recently retired Bart Valentine who coached the Knights for 13 seasons.

Bowie came out of the gates firing and scored 11 of the Knights first 13 points. The hosts needed the effort, as College of Idaho (4-5, 0-1 CCC) jumped out to a 11-5 lead and tied the game at 17 all with 11:43 to play on a Ben Van Lith layup. Warner Pacific (6-2, 1-0 CCC) ripped off a 16-2 run at that point, and finished out the half by outscoring the Coyotes 32 to 11 overall. Stephen Harris hit a pair of free throws to send the Knights into the break with a 49-28 lead.

The second period was more of the same, as the Knights continued to shoot with accuracy and C of I struggled to find an answer to WP’s zone defense. Ryan Parks drained a three point shot with 1:25 to play, giving the Knights their largest lead of the night at 87-50.

William Sharp (14) and Doug Thomas (13) joined Bowie in double figure scoring, while Harris grabbed a game high eight rebounds. Diego Herrejon contributed a season high eight points of the bench for Warner Pacific.

Matt Ballenger scored 12 points for the ‘Yotes, helped by Rodney Delgardo with 11 counters.

Warner Pacific will host Eastern Oregon tomorrow night, while College of Idaho heads to Concordia as the opening weekend in the Cascade Conference continues.
