Cavs Drop CCC Opener 81-50 to EOU
STATS - Concordia vs. Eastern Oregon
PORTLAND, Ore.—The Concordia women’s basketball team dropped their CCC opener 81-50 to No. 17 Eastern Oregon on Friday.
Eastern Oregon (8-1, 1-0 CCC) took control of the game early when a three-pointer from Dominique Johnson sparked a 17-0 run that spanned over four minutes in the first half.
Malori Dixon’s three-pointer with 8:20 remaining broke the run for Concordia (3-5, 0-1 CCC), but not before EOU had surged out a 29-13 lead. The Mountaineers then maintained that advantage for the rest of the half and went into halftime up 39-23.
After the break, Eastern Oregon came out hot once again as the team scored the first 12 points in the period. The second big run put the Mountaineers in full control of the game and they cruised from there.
Throughout the game, Eastern Oregon dominated the boards, posting a big 48-21 advantage in the category. In addition, the Mountaineers had 22 offensive rebounds compared to just six for Concordia.
For Concordia, Malori Dixon led the team with 11 points, while senior Courtney May grabbed a team-high five rebounds. On the flip side, Korrie Bourn posted a double-double for the Mountaineers with 11 points and 12 boards to go along with a game-high five assists. Meanwhile, Johnson and Chayla Jones each scored a game-high 14 points, while Brooke Randall also cracked double-digits with 10 points.
Both teams return to action tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. against another CCC-foe. Concordia will host The College of Idaho, while Eastern Oregon faces Warner Pacific on the road.
