Owls Hold Off Concordia, Win 67-58
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 9-1 run late in the second half and held off Concordia University down the stretch, as the Owls earned a Cascade Conference win tonight at Danny Miles Court by a 67-58 final.
After a 4-4 tie, Tech used an 11-2 run to go up 15-6, but the Cavs would answer and pull back to within three points, 17-14, with 8:05 on the clock.
Oregon Tech would score the next eight points as Kassi Conditt gave the Owls their first double digit lead, 25-14, on a layup with 4:40 to play in the opening period.
CU again cut their deficit to just three points at the 2:31 mark, but the Owls would score the last four points of the half and head to intermission leading 30-23.
CU once again battled back to trail 34-32 and eventually took a lead on a pair of Megan Padilla free throws, 42-41, with 11:06 to play. However, Conditt answered with a jumper on the next possession to give the lead back to the Owls, and eventually move up by five with 8:16 to play.
A Brittany Yates jumper pulled the Cavaliers to within a single point, 49-48, but a Tech 11-3 run gave the Owls a nine point cushion, 60-51, with just over two minutes to play. Tech would go on to hit 8-of-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch and move on to the 67-58 victory.
Tech finished with three players in double figures led by an 18 point nine rebound effort from Karissa Dixon – both game-highs. Morgan Hofman finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and Kassi Conditt 11 points and tied for game-high honors with nine boards in the win for the Owls.
Concordia’s Courtney May led the Cavaliers with 15 points and five rebounds, followed by Rachel Scarpelli with 13 and Malori Dixon’s 12 points and five boards.
Oregon Tech finished the game 21-for-48 (43.8%), while holding CU to just 25.8% from the floor (17-for-66). The Owls held a 50 to 35 edge in rebounding, with CU forcing the Owls into 26 turnovers to just 15 for the Cavaliers.
Oregon Tech will take a 15-2 mark into Monday where the Owls host Simpson University in the last non-conference game of the season. Tech (5-1 CCC) resumes conference action in Ashland where the Owls face arch-rival Southern Oregon University on Saturday, January 7th, beginning at 5:30 PM.
