KIRKLAND, Wash. – Meghan Hughes and Felicity Jones combined for 32 points to lead the College of Idaho over Northwest University, 54-48, tonight in Cascade Conference play.

With both teams hitting a cold spell in the first half, the College of Idaho shot 25% (8-32) and Northwest hit 26% (6-23) of their shots as the College of Idaho would take a slim, 21-20 lead at the half. C of I hit 9% of their 3-point shots (1-11) and Northwest managed 17% shooting from beyond the 3-point arc (1-6).

 

The College of Idaho’s shooting would heat up in the second half and the Yotes would go on a 10-0 run to start the period to go up 31-20 on a Meghan Hughes jumper with 15:36 on the clock. Two free throws by Jessalyn Jackson would cut the lead to six, 33-27, at the 14:57 mark, but the C of I would answer with a 4-0 run capped off by another Hughes jumper to increase their lead to 37-27 with 13:39 showing on the scoreboard. Tina Fakahafua would give the Yotes a 12 points lead at the 8:46 mark with her jumper, but the Eagles wouldn’t go away easily as they would slowly chip away at the C of I lead to find themselves down just three points, 45-42, with 5:32 left in the game as Emily Drivstuen would hit a 3-pointer. The College of Idaho would maintain a slim lead as Jackson would hit one of two free throws with 1:52 remaining to make it a two point game, 49-47. C of I would hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch and hold NU to one free throw as they would post their ninth win of the season.

 

Northwest U. (6-6, 2-2 CCC) was led by Jessalyn Jackson’s double-double, 29 points, 23 rebounds and added 4 blocks. Domi Mendezona and Emily Drivstuen each added 5 points each as the Eagles shot 28% on the night (14-50). NU would hit 17-20 free throws for an 85% average.

 

The College of Idaho (9-5, 4-1 CCC) got 16 points each from Meghan Hughes and Felicity Jones while teammate Tina Fakahafua added 8 points and 11 rebounds for the Yotes. C of I finished the night shooting 34% and hit 72% of their free throws.

 

Northwest U. remains at home tomorrow night as they host Eastern Oregon and the College of Idaho travels to Olympia to take on the Evergreen State College. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
