Oregon Tech Defeats Concordia 101-87
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 3 ranked Oregon Tech used a 20-4 run over the last six minutes of the opening half to break open a 30-30 tie and go on to defeat Concordia University by a 101-87 final tonight in Cascade Conference action at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech moved to 15-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Concordia drops to 8-7 on the year and 1-4 in CCC action.
After five ties over the course of the first 10 minutes of action, the Owls took a six point lead on a Jason Gamblin free throw. Tech continued to hold on to the same six point lead after a Bobby Hunter basket, 29-23, at the 9:03 mark.
Concordia managed to tie the game at 32-32, but Oregon Tech finished the half on a 20-4 run to take a 52-36 lead into the half.
Oregon Tech then moved out to a 19 point lead just 30 seconds into the second half, but Concordia chipped away over the next nine minutes, and when Drew Preuninger hit from long distance with 10:22 to play, CU was down just seven points.
Tech went back up by double digits on a Jason Gamblin 3-pointer on the next possession, but with the Owls holding on to a 76-63 lead, a Cavalier 9-0 run pulled the visitors to four points, 76-72. CU managed to keep it at four, 78-74, with 4:30 remaining, but the Hustlin’ Owls put together a 19-4 run and move on to a 101-87 win.
Five Owls scored in double figures led by Bobby Hunter, on back-to-back nights, with 30 points. Scotty Riddle added 14 points and David Clarke 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Jason Gamblin was a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Bryant Sentman netted 11 points with Kyle Gomez finishing with nine points, eight assists and six boards in the win for Tech.
Concordia had five players score in double digits with Adam Herman coming away with a team-high 20 points to lead the Cavaliers. Drew Preuninger netted 17 points, followed by Gage Aker with 16. Kevan West and Jourdan Sweeney came away with 12 points and 11 points respectively in the loss for CU.
Tech will host Simpson University on Monday, January 2nd, in the last non-conference game of the season before getting back to conference action at Southern Oregon on Saturday, January 7th. Both games tip off at 7:30 PM.
