PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia’s women’s soccer team, which won three games in four days at the NAIA Championships in Decatur, Ala., has been named the recipient of the CCC’s Verizon Team of the Week award, the conference office announced Sunday.

The Cavaliers’ run at their first national title in women’s soccer ended on Saturday when they fell to three-time defending champion Lee University (Tenn.) in the title game. After opening the tournament with a home victory over Westminster (Utah) Nov. 19, eighth-seeded Concordia advanced to the 16-team finals in Alabama where they defeated Spring Arbor (Mich.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) by a combined score of 8-1 to reach the title match.

Concordia fell to Lee in the championship game 3-0.

"I asked them to be the hardest working team, the most united team and the hungriest team and I was really proud with how they came together and bought into those three things which enabled us to peak on and off the field," said veteran Concordia coach Grant Landy.
