KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- The first ever Oregon Tech “Blackout for Hunger” raised over 2,600 pounds of food for the Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank last Saturday night at Oregon Tech’s Danny Miles Court. Students and fans were encouraged to wear black and to bring a can or non-perishable food item for the food bank to the game. Fans responded by overflowing four donation barrels.
“A million thanks to Oregon Tech, its students and their great fans,” said Niki Sampson from the Klamath-Lake Counties Food Bank. “We can feed about 40 families for just under a week with the donations received from this one event. Demand is through the roof right now. The food bank is distributing just over 15 tons weekly. One in four households in Klamath and Lake Counties has relied on the food bank and its programs this year.”
The food bank provided food to create 22,000 food boxes and assist in the preparation of 450,000 meals this year so far. Donations can be made at any grocery store, by check, in person or on-line.
