Balanced Attack Leads Raiders Past Owls
ASHLAND, ORE. -- Five Southern Oregon players had at least six points as the Southern Oregon women cruised to a 73-57 victory over arch-rival Oregon Tech tonight at Riehm Arena.
Southern Oregon improved to 15-13 overall and 8-8 in Cascade Conference play. The Raiders host Warner Pacific next Friday. Oregon Tech dropped its eighth-straight game and fell to 10-18 overall and 2-14 in conference action.
Alexi Smith led all scorers with 18 points and added 13 rebounds. Carly Wood added 13 points and Whitney Scott had 10 points.
Aundrea Albright led OIT with 12 points.
The Raiders used a late first half run to take a 36-27 halftime lead. Oregon Tech had cut the SOU lead to 23-20 before the Raiders took off. A 3-pointer by Scott and then a 3-pointer by Josi McDermott as the first half clock expired had the Raiders rolling.
Krystal Smith pushed the lead to 42-29 on back-to-back layups following Oregon Tech's 15th and 16th turnovers of the game.
A deep 3-pointer by Wood put the Raiders up 49-35 with just over 14 minutes to play.
Another McDermott 3-pointer in transition got the Raider advantage up to 53-35 and Oregon Tech would never threaten again.
