LEWISTON, Idaho -- The College of Idaho baseball team split a pair of games today at the Red Lion Tournament at Harris Field in Lewiston, losing 10-3 to fourth-ranked Lewis-Clark State, but stopping Corban, 7-2.

In the opener, the Coyotes (1-2) took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a Kyle Douglas RBI, but L-C exploded for six runs in the bottom of the frame, with Brian Gaylord’s grand slam providing the big blow.

Andrew Sewell got a run back for the Yotes in the second with an RBI single, but the Warriors (4-0) got a bases-clearing double from Gino Casini in the third, pushing the margin to 10-2, with L-C pitchers Tyler Barrett and Tyrell Poggemeyer combining for 12 strikeouts.

Jesse Vermillion walked seven men in three innings to take the loss for the Yotes, while Wes Semonchuk was solid in relief, allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames. Jesse Dodd and Cody Spencer had two-hit games for the Yotes, who outhit L-C, 9-6.

Game 2 saw the Yotes jump out again in the first on a Douglas RBI single, but Corban (0-3) tied the score in the third on a bases loaded walk. However, The C of I got out of the inning thanks to a double play ball.

Douglas continued his big day, roping a two-run double in the fourth to give The C of I a 4-1 lead – enough for starter Joshua Orr, who went six strong innings for his first win. Mitch Dame tossed three shutout innings to pick up the save.

Kris Bos, Kyle Kunkel, and Sage Poland each had two hits for Corban, while Douglas went 3-for-5 in the win for the Yotes.

The C of I closes out tournament play tomorrow, meeting Concordia at 11 a.m.
