Concordia Pulls Away to 80-48 Victory Over Evergreen

PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia University limited Evergreen State to 18.2 percent shooting in the second half as the Cavaliers turned a nine-point halftime lead into an 80-48 Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball victory in the final home game of the regular season Saturday night at Cavalier Gymnasium.
With the win, Concordia improves to 20-8 overall and ties Northwest at the top of the CCC standings with a 12-4 conference record. Evergreen falls to 5-18 overall, 3-13 in conference play.
The Cavaliers scored the first eight points of the contest and led by 12 five minutes into the game at 14-2. Concordia would stretch its lead to 16 at 26-10 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half, but Evergreen responded with a 19-7 run to pull within two at 33-31 with 2:07 to play before the intermission. Megan Padilla ended the run with a three-pointer, and CU would score the final six points of the half to lead 42-33 at the break.
Concordia tried to pull away in the first 12 minutes of the second half, but the Cavs could not stretch their lead beyond 16 points. Evergreen trailed 56-45 with 7:56 left to play when Sarah Eischen’s jumper sparked an 11-0 CU streak, part of a 24-3 run to end the game for the Cavaliers.
The Geoducks turned the ball over 12 times in the second period, compared to just one assist, and shot 4-of-22 in the half. Eischen scored eight points on 3-3 shooting, 2-2 from the free throw line, grabbed eight rebounds and contributed three steals and three assists in the period for CU.
Danielle Clauson scored 14 points to lead a group of five CU players who reached double-figures in the scoring column. Clauson grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied three steals and three assists as she and Eischen played the final home regular season game in their CU careers. Eischen finished with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and tied a career-high with 12 rebounds. She also contributed three assists and a game-high four steals on Senior Night.
Courtney May scored 13 points and led CU with four assists, while Gabi Beyer and Rachel Scarpelli each scored 12 in the win. Evergreen’s Danelle Swain scored 19 on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as the only Geoduck to score in double-digits.
Concordia returns to action Feb. 18, when the Cavaliers visit Oregon Tech in a CCC game scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
