KANSAS CITY -- Eastern Oregon University pole vaulter Robbie Haynie was named the NAIA National Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday.

Haynie finished third at the Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho in the men’s pole vault last Saturday. The transfer from Mesa Junior College had a 17’3/4” mark in the field of 16 competitors that featured NCAA Div. 1 talent. That vault hit the NAIA National Championship Automatic qualifying standard.

Haynie was already named the Red Lion Cascade Collegiate Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Monday for his performance. His mark would have been good enough to win the NAIA Indoor championships 18 out of the last 20 years. Hayne becomes the first EOU athlete ever to be named an Indoor NAIA Athlete of the Week.

The Nampa, Idaho native set the best mark currently in the NAIA in his Mountaineer debut. Haynie also ran in the men’s 60-meter sprint. He finished 13th in that event with a time of 7:41.
