FINAL RESULTS

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team finished its indoor regular season Saturday and had more automatic qualifiers in the process.

The Mountaineers were competing against NCAA Div. 1 competition again this weekend at the Washington State University Indoor Open II. In the field events Anne Barnett and Robbie Haynie were the highlights.

Barnett had an NAI National Championship automatic qualifying mark in the shot put to go with her auto in the 20-pound weight throw auto-qualifier. Barnett unleashed a toss of 44' 8.25" to finish third behind a pair of NCAA Div. 1 throwers. Her previous best was 42'3.25" set last week.

Haynie added a provisional mark in the High Jump with a leap of 6'7". The junior has already qualified in the heptathlon and pole vault.

On the track, Ryan Booth and Alma Garcilazo both dominated the competition, each winning the 800 meter events on their respective sides. Booth had a come from behind win over the last 100 meters, and Garcilazo by took the lead less than 100 meters into her race and streaking away to a new EOU record of 2:13.98 and a wide margin of victory.

Sarah Hanchett just missed the NAIA auto mark in the other heat of the 800 meters. Hanchett's time of 2:19.12 was just off the auto mark of 2:19.00.

Hans Roelle nearly had an auto mark in his debut in the men's mile with a time of 4:21.01. The auto is 4:20.60. Not far behind Roelle was Kody Coxen in his own mile debut of 4:22. Justin Dean ran the 3,000 meters and just missed the national qualifying mark by a few seconds.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Kadie Booth, Kelsey Kinzer, Kimmy Moore and Brittany Sims, also just missed an NAIA auto mark. Moore did win her heat in the open 400 meters.

The Mountaineers have off until the NAIA Indoor National Championships from March 3rd through 5th. The national meet will be in Geneva, Ohio at the GaREAT Sports Complex.
