Concordia Closes Out 4-0 Weekend with Pair of Wins at Northwest Cup
CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Concordia University finished out a 4-0 weekend at the Northwest Cup on Sunday with a 9-1 five-inning win over Puget Sound and a 2-1 win over Willamette at Hood View Park. The Cavs improved to 7-4 this season with the pair of wins.

Concordia scored runs in all five innings in compiling a 9-1 win over Puget Sound. The Cavaliers scored three runs in the second inning, two each in the third and fourth and one apiece in the first and fifth, totaling nine runs on 12 hits with two errors. The Loggers scored their only run in the second inning, finishing the game with one run on four hits and two errors.
Jordyn Brown (Hillsboro, Ore./Glencoe H.S.) pitched the five-inning complete game for Concordia, giving up one run on four hits. Ali Paz (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg H.S.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Allison Gunter (San Diego, Calif./Christian H.S.), Cameron Way (Steilacoom, Wash./Steilacoom H.S.) and Amy Aicher (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish H.S.) all finished the contest with two hits in four at bats.
The Cavs' biggest inning came in the second, when CU tallied three runs on four hits. After Brown flied out to center to open the inning, Mallory Callahan (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson's Bay H.S.) doubled to left center and Sam Genskay (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City, Ore.) singled through the left side to put runners at the corners. Kayla Vickaryous (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake H.S.) drove in the first run with a groundout to second, and Gunter reached on a bunt single that put runners at first and third with two outs. After Gunter stole second, a passed ball allowed her to reach third and brought Genskay home. Paz followed with an infield single to score Gunter from third as CU earned the win.

A seventh-inning home run for Willamette ended the shutout, but Renee Santos (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's H.S.) pitched Concordia to a 2-1 victory over the Bearcats in the Cavs' final contest of the weekend. Concordia scored a run in the third and fifth innings, finishing with seven hits while Willamette posted four hits in the contest.
Santos pitched all seven innings for the Cavs, striking out 12 batters while walking only one. Ali Paz (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg H.S.) went 3-for-3 with both runs batted in for Concordia as the only player to post multiple hits.
The Cavs scored in the third as Sam Genskay (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City, Ore.) singled to shortstop and advanced to second and third on consecutive sacrifice bunts. Paz's single up the middle brought the run home to give CU a 1-0 lead. They stretched the advantage to 2-0 in the fifth, as Kayla Vickaryous (Castle Rock, Wash./Toutle Lake H.S.), Ali Gunter and Paz hit consecutive two-out singles, the final of which bringing Vickaryous home from second.
