Concordia's Clauson Leads All-CCC Honorees
PORTLAND, Ore. – Forward Danielle Clauson of Concordia University has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced Sunday.
The 5-10 senior forward from Edmonds, Wash., was second in CCC scoring average (17.8 ppg), third in field goal percentage (.524) and fifth in rebounding (7.1 rpg) during the Cavaliers’ march to a share of the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title. Clauson was named CCC Player of the Week three times during the season.
The College of Idaho’s Nicole Gall repeated as the conference’s top defensive player. Gall, a 5-10 senior from Boise, Idaho, led the CCC in steals with 2.8 thefts per game and was fourth in blocked shots at 1.6 bpg. Gall, an All-CCC selection, was runner-up in the hunt for player of the year honors behind Clauson.
Concordia’s Courtney May earned Newcomer of the Year recognition after a season which saw the 5-6 junior from Napavine, Wash., average 12.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The transfer from Centralia Community College (Wash.), a first team All-CCC selection, also had 43 steals and 81 assists in conference play.
Concordia’s fifth-year head coach, Aaron Christian, was selected the CCC’s Coach of the Year after leading the Cavaliers to a share of the CCC regular season crown. The Cavs tied for the CCC regular season title with a 13-5 record and earned an automatic berth in the upcoming NAIA Championships in Sioux City, Iowa. The Cavs were ranked as high as 15th during the regular season, and are currently listed No. 22. The NAIA’s final poll will be released Wednesday.
Others named to the 12-person All-CCC team included Corban’s Katie Steigleman and Jennesa Miller; Eastern Oregon’s Kyle Miller; Evergreen’s Latrina Woods; Northwest’s Jessalyn Jackson and Kia Gibson; Northwest Christian’s Hope Williams; Southern Oregon’s Whitney Scott; and Warner Pacific’s Kelsey Mattsen.
Ten players earned honorable mention All-CCC honors: Miranda Holenstein, Warner Pacific; Sheena Alexander, Northwest Christian; Katelin Shannon, College of Idaho; Jamie Roupp, Southern Oregon; Brittney Marshall, Northwest; Cameryn Calhoun, Warner Pacific; Tess Bennett, Corban; Brittany Cherry, Oregon Tech; Nicole Bruce, College of Idaho; and Danielle Swain, Evergreen.
