Rain mixed with freezing temperatures in the McMinnville area has forced the cancellation of the remaining three games between Corban and Lewis-Clark State.
Weather Forces NAIA West Series Between Corban & Lewis-Clark State to be Cancelled
SALEM, Ore. – First-year head coach Jeff McKay announced early Sunday that the remaining three NAIA West games against the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Lewis-Clark State have been cancelled due to bad weather in the McMinnville area.
The two teams were able to get one game in under the lights Saturday night at Roy Helser Field, but the amount of rain that has hit the McMinnville area over the past 12 hours forced Linfield's athletic administration to announce that the baseball field would be unplayable both today and tomorrow.
Even though Roy Helser Field's infield is 100% turf, the outfield is natural grass. With the freezing temperatures and snow over the past week throughout the Willamette Valley, Linfield players and coaching staff had to clear snow off the outfield in order for games to be played yesterday leaving certain spots in the outfield a wet and soggy mess.
As conditions did not get better over the past 12 hours, Linfield requested that the field not be used for the remainder of the weekend. Since Warrior Field is also not playable and there was not a back up field in the plans, both head coaches decided that the rest of the series would be cancelled with no make up dates announced.
Corban will return to the field on Friday, March 4th, against the NAIA's No. 10-ranked Thunderbirds of British Columbia beginning with a double header at noon on Warrior Field.
