OIT's Foster Named CCC Player of the Year
PORTLAND, Ore. – Guard Joseph Foster of Oregon Tech was unanimously named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced Monday.
The 5-11 senior from Vallejo, Calif., led the CCC in conference scoring average (18.9 ppg), was third in free throw percentage (.837) and sixth in three point field goals made per game (2.28). Foster led the Owls to their third straight Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title.
Northwest University’s Greg Peters was selected as the conference’s top defender. Peters, a 6-8 senior from Belmont, St. Vincent, led the CCC in rebounding at 9.3 boards per game and was third in blocked shots at 1.1 per game. Peters, an All-CCC selection, was named CCC player of the Week on Nov. 22.
Southern Oregon’s Jordan Highland earned Newcomer of the Year recognition after a season which saw the 6-5 junior forward from Tualatin, Ore., average 16.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. The transfer from Linn-Benton Community College (Ore.), a first team All-CCC selection, was also a top-15 performer in field goal shooting (.550, 116-211) during conference play.
For the sixth time, Dan Miles of Oregon Tech was selected the CCC’s Coach of the Year after leading the Owls to their third straight CCC regular season crown. Currently, the eighth-ranked Hustlin’ Owls own a 56-game home winning streak and will be making their 16th appearance at the NAIA Men’s Division II National Tournament next week in Point Lookout, Mo. Miles is in his 40th year at Oregon Tech.
Others named to the 12-person All-CCC team included Matt Ballenger, College of Idaho; Adam Herman and Gage Aker, Concordia; Jordan Carter and Erik Cronrath, Corban; Jamar Johnson and Thomas McCarthy, Eastern Oregon; Kyle Gomez, Oregon Tech; and Webster Moreland, Warner Pacific.
Ten players earned honorable mention All-CCC honors: Kellen Spicer, Northwest Christian; Josh Troyer, Evergreen; J.C. Cook, Eastern Oregon; Greg George, Northwest; Marice Tolliver, Evergreen; Tyson Christie, Northwest; Brent Johnson, Oregon Tech; Jourdan Sweeney, Concordia; Jordan Call, Northwest; and Kelly McCarty, College of Idaho.
