4 Earn Red Lion Track & Field Honors
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Four Cascade Collegiate Conference student-athletes in the sport of indoor track and field have been recognized as Red Lion Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
The men's honorees:
Track – Concordia University’s Jameson Futter, a junior from Washougal, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Men’s Track Athlete of the Week. Futter set a pair of school records at the Boise State Bronco Open, clocking a time of 7.10 in the 60 meters and registering a mark of 22-3 ¾ in the long jump.
Field – Concordia University’s Branko Djuricic, a junior from Kravjevo, Serbia, has been named the Red Lion Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. At the Boise State Bronco Open, Djuricic landed a half-inch shy of a school record in the triple jump, registering a mark of 47-5 to earn an automatic bid to next month’s NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The women's honorees:
Track – College of Idaho’s Hillary Holt, a freshman from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Holt finished third in a competitive mile race at the Boise State Bronco Open, hitting an NAIA provisional qualifying standard with a time of 5:11.74 (just 14 hundredths of a second from an automatic qualifying time). It was her first-ever indoor meet.
Honorable mention: Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Andria Scheese, Concordia.
Field – Concordia University’s Kaycee Gillespie, a senior from Helena, Mont., has been named the Red Lion Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. At the Boise State Bronco Open, Gillespie cleared a season best of 10-6 in the pole vault.
