9 Named Red Lion Players of the Week

9 Named Red Lion Players of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nine CCC student-athletes in the sports of baseball, softball, golf and track and field have been recognized as Red Lion Athletes of the Week for the period March 6-13, the conference office announced Monday.

The honorees:

Baseball

Player – College of Idaho’s Izaac Garsez, a 6-1 junior center fielder from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week. In a four-game sweep of Concordia University, Garsez batted .500 (8 of 16) and had an inside-the-park home run. He scored six times and drove in three runs.

Honorable mention: Steven Blum, Corban; Colin Stock, Oregon Tech; Riley Tubbs, Concordia.

Pitcher – Oregon Tech’s Matt Bellando, a 6-1 senior from Eugene, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week. In his lone appearance, Bellando tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out eight batters in an 8-0 victory over Corban.

Honorable mention: Chris Trammell, Corban; Jesse Vermillion, College of Idaho; Mitch Ludtke, Concordia.

Softball

Player – Oregon Tech’s Shauna Collins, a 5-8 freshman infielder from Roseburg, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week. In four games last week, all wins against NCAA Division II competition, Collins batted .462 and drove in six runs. She scored 10 runs and also had a double, triple, and two stolen bases.

Honorable mention: Rachel Conard, Corban; Emily Anderson, Eastern Oregon; Ali Paz, Concordia.

Pitcher – Oregon Tech’s Jackie Imhof, a 6-0 senior from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week. In three appearances, Imhof picked up a pair of victories and a save as the Owls improved to 14-5. In a little over 15 innings of work, Imhof allowed just one run, walked one and struck out 26.

 

Honorable mention: Makenzie Marchbanks, Corban; Jennifer McDonnell, Eastern Oregon; Allison Gunter, Concordia.


Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track – College of Idaho’s Austin Basterrechea, a freshman from Gooding, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Male Track Athlete of the Week. Basterrechea won the decathlon at the Northwest Nazarene Open, setting a school record with a point total of 5,759. He won the long jump, high jump and 400 meters.

Honorable mention: Isaac Updike, Eastern Oregon; Connor Abdelnoor, Evergreen; Cameron Hamilton, Warner Pacific.

Field – College of Idaho’s Travis Sharp, a freshman from Kennewick, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Male Field Athlete of the Week. At the Northwest Nazarene Open, Sharp won the javelin with a mark of 172-0, the best effort by a Coyote since the 1970s.

Honorable mention: Joseph Babcock, Northwest; Adrian Weber, Warner Pacific.


Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track – Eastern Oregon University’s Brittany Sims, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, has been named the Red Lion Female Track Athlete of the Week. At the Northwest Nazarene University Open, Sims won the 100 meters (12.88) and ran a leg on EOU’s winning team in the 4x400 relay. She also finished second in the 400 hurdles, posting the second-fastest time (1:04.82) in school history.

Honorable mention: Lindsey Wagner, Northwest; Jasmine Sibert, College of Idaho.

Field – Northwest University’s Lindsey Wessa, a junior from Battle Ground, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Female Field Athlete of the Week. At the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational, against a field comprised primarily of NCAA Division II and III competitors, Wessa won the pole vault with a mark of 10-6.


Men’s Golf

Concordia University’s Jed Dalton, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week. At the Point Loma University (Calif.) Invitational, in a field which featured six teams that finished in the top 35 in the final national poll last season, Dalton placed tied for fifth. He shots rounds of 74-75-77 for a 13-over 226. He helped Concordia to an eighth-place team finish.

Honorable mention: Joey Duwe, Corban; Kyle DeLorey, College of Idaho.
