SALEM, Ore. – In a dual meet against NCAA Division III member and cross town rival Willamette Thursday at McCullough Stadium, Corban's men's and women's track & field team captured five individual medals and qualified eight Warriors for this year's Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.

On the women's side, freshman Abigail Van Hoogen (Boise, Idaho) captured the high jump medal, as she cleared a school-record 1.63 meters (5-feet, 1.75-inches) to win the event by two inches. Van Hoogen did finished second behind unattached jumper Alison Wood, but captured the dual crown versus her fellow collegiate jumpers. With her record-setting jump, Van Hoogen moved onto this season's conference championships after clearing the minimum height of 1.34 meters on her first jump of the afternoon clearing 1.47 meters.

Along with Van Hoogen, senior Rachel Newby (Portland, Ore.) won the javelin event with a throw of 36.19 meters (118-feet, 9-inches) and qualified for the conference championship meet by nine meters. The first-year Warrior bettered the CCC minimum mark on each of her four throws, while winning the event with her first throw of the afternoon.

Sophomore Rian Miller (Plummer, Idaho) became the third Warrior competitor to win an event thanks to her school-record toss of 31.71 meters (104-feet) in the hammer throw. The second-year Warrior bettered the CCC minimum qualification mark by over two meters and broke her own school record by almost five meters.

In the 100 meter hurdles, a pair of Warriors – sophomores Eliya Kohl (Salem, Ore.) and Becca Stanton (Springfield, Ore.) – qualified for the CCC Championships with times of 17.40 and 18.26, respectively. Kohl finished second overall, while Stanton turned in a fifth place showing in the 10-runner race. Also competing for Corban, but not meeting the minimum time for the conference championships was freshman Olivia Goleman (Days Creek, Ore.) and junior Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.). Goleman finished eighth overall with a time of 20.01, while Renfro finished 10th thanks to a time of 21.52.

On the men's side, freshman James Myrvold (Sandy, Ore.) began the day winning the high jump with a school-record leap of 1.98 meters (6-feet, 6-inches), as the first-year Warrior bettered the CCC's minimum qualification mark by 0.30 meters. In winning the event by six inches, Myrvold came within striking distance of meeting the NAIA's 'B' qualification standard faulting on all three attempts at 2.03 meters.

Following Myrvold's individual medal in the high jump, fellow freshman Kyle Croft (Spokane, Wash.) stepped onto the track and defeated Warrior freshman teammate Chris McGehee (Jefferson, Ore.) in the 110 meter hurdles with a CCC qualifying time of 17.12 seconds. Croft bettered the conference's minimum standard by 0.32 seconds, while McGehee clocked a time of 19.67 to finish as the race runner-up.

Freshman Mark Hanson (Happy Valley, Ore.) also qualified for this season's CCC Championships with a throw of 51.73 meters (169-feet, 9-inches) in the javelin to finish second in the event. The first-year Warrior surpassed the conference's minimum standard by nearly nine meters.

Hanson and fellow freshman Zach Conlee (Milton-Freewater, Ore.) rounded out the Warriors' competitors on the opening day of the Corban-Willamette Dual Meet with a sixth and eighth place showing, respectively, in the hammer throw. Hanson unleashed a throw of 34.86 meters (114-feet, 4-inches), while Conlee registered a throw of 33.76 meters (110-feet, 9-inches). Neither toss was good enough to qualify for the CCC Championships, but both are within striking distance after only two events this season.
