Oregon Tech scored its first run in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of hit batsmen and a throwing error by Santos to score an unearned run and take a 1-0 lead. They tallied a couple more in the second when Janelle Cromie walked to open the inning and Shauna Collins hit a two-run home run over the center field wall to make it 3-0 OIT.

Jess Plummer doubled to open the top of the third for Oregon Tech, coming in to score on Taylor Schmidt’s bunt single to stretch the lead to 4-0. Concordia scored its first run in the bottom of the third. Kyndell Andrews led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice bunt. Mallory Callahan walked and stole second, and Andrews took off on the throw down to second and was able to score on the play to make it 4-1.

A pair of three-run homers in the final two innings clinched the contest for the Owls. With runners at first and third and one out in the fourth, Ashleigh Larson knocked a home run over the left field wall to make it a 7-1 game. Cromie followed in the fifth with a three-run homer of her own, sending a shot over the right field wall to push the lead to 10-1 going into the bottom of the fifth.

Concordia scored a run in the bottom of the fifth but left a runner on third with a chance to extend the game. Andrews singled to right center and scored on a throwing error following Robin Gawlista’s double to left center to make it 10-2 with Gawlista standing on third with one out. But Mallory Callahan and Laura Thorp each struck out to end the contest.

Andrews finished with two of CU’s three hits in the contest. Taylor Schmidt tallied a pair of hits and two RBI for OIT, joining the three players who hit home runs with multiple RBI in the contest.

BOX SCORE

The Owls scored two in the first inning and one in the second and Taylor Schmidt stifled the Concordia offense, limiting the Cavs to three hits in the 3-0 loss. Schmidt picked up the shutout win for OIT, while Jordyn Brown pitched the complete-game loss for Concordia, yielding three runs on six hits.

A pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first for Oregon Tech. Janelle Cromie singled to right field to score two and give the Owls the early lead. Oregon Tech added one more in the top of the second, as Danielle Sayres walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and reached third on an infield groundout. The Cavs left a pair of runners on in the first and third innings, but CU was unable to come up with a clutch hit to bring any of the runners home in the shutout loss. Sam Genskay finished with two of CU’s three hits, with Kayla Vickaryous picking up the other. Vickaryous made a pair of run-saving plays in center field, including stealing a home run from Wheatley in the top of the seventh as the CU center fielder reached over the fence to snag the ball.
