Southern Oregon Sweeps Concordia in Twinbill
PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia University continued its offensive struggles as Southern Oregon swept the Cavaliers 1-0 and 4-2 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Delta Park.
Concordia falls to 7-9 overall and 0-4 in the CCC. Southern Oregon improves to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in the CCC.

Renee Santos pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, but the Raiders took advantage of three CU errors in the third inning to score the deciding run. Jordyn Kurtz picked up the win for Southern Oregon, limiting the Cavs to five hits in the contest.
Concordia left nine runners on base, at least one in each inning. The Cavs’ best scoring chance came in the third, when Ali Gunter was thrown out at home trying to score on Sam Genskay’s single.
Southern Oregon scored its only run in the third inning. Emily Matekel was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sierra Anderson. Anderson also reached on a throwing error by first baseman Cameron Way, putting runners at first and second with no outs. One out later, Irene Barrantes hit a grounder back toward the pitcher, but Santos was unable to field it cleanly, and the Raiders loaded the bases on the error. Kathryn Moy followed with a sacrifice fly to center, driving home the only run of the game.
Kurtz helped her own cause with the only two hits for Southern Oregon in the contest. No CU player had more than one hit, as the Cavs’ five hits were scattered among five different players.

Both teams scored two runs in the first, and a pair of solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings gave Southern Oregon the series sweep. Allison Gunter took the loss for CU, throwing five innings and yielding four runs on nine hits. Karlie Stephens earned the win for SOU, entering with one out in the first inning and throwing the final 6.2 innings, limiting the Cavs to no runs on six hits.
A pair of one-out singles in the top of the first put two on for Southern Oregon. Both runners advanced on an infield groundout, and Jordyn Kurtz’s two-out single to center brought them both home to give the Raiders an early 2-0 lead. Concordia tied it up in the bottom of the inning, however. Kayla Vickaryous led off with a single and stole second. Sam Genskay followed with an infield single and stole second, and Vickaryous scored on an errant throw by the catcher trying to throw out Genskay at second. Ali Paz followed with a walk and stole second, with Genskay taking off from third as soon as the catcher threw down to second, allowing her to score CU’s second run and tie the game.
The game remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth, when Rayna Okimoto powered a ball over the center field wall for a solo home run. The Raiders added one more in the next inning, when pinch hitter Irene Barrantes drilled a homer over the right field fence to make it 4-2.
Kayla Vickaryous finished the game 4-for-4 to lead both teams in hits. Gia DiMaggio tallied three hits for Southern Oregon, and Okimoto added two for the Raiders.
