Feb Helps Corban Split With Ranked Concordia

CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Sophomore Tamara Feb (Oregon City, Ore.) drove in three runs in the finale thanks to a solo home run and a two-run single, as Corban's softball team split a double header with the NAIA's No. 11-ranked Concordia, 1-4 & 4-0, Friday at Hood View Park.
On the afternoon, three Warriors – Feb, junior Emma Winckler (Eltopia, Wash.), and freshman Lounette Jackson (Escalon, Calif.) – each collected two hits to go along with a hit apiece for sophomore Stephanie Nippert (Rocklin, Calif.), sophomore Rachel Conard (Merlin, Ore.), and freshman Courtney Castronovo (Salem, Ore.).
In the circle, Winkler picked up her fifth victory of the season via a complete game shutout in the finale allowing a mere five hits to the nationally-ranked Cavaliers. Game #1 featured senior Makenzie Marchbanks (Sweet Home, Ore.) in the circle for Corban, as she suffered the loss allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits to go along with five strikeouts.
GAME #1 – CONCORDIA 4, CORBAN 1
In the opener, Concordia would get on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run home run by Ali Paz for a quick 2-0 Cavalier lead.
Corban would cut the home team's lead in half in the top of the second inning thanks to two-out double by Winckler before she came home following a pass ball on Castronovo's RBI single to left center field that made the score 2-1 in favor of Concordia.
Wasting no time, the host Cavaliers added another two runs in the bottom of the second inning when Sam Genskay registered a run-scoring infield single before Kayla Vickaryous scored on a Warrior error to extend CU's lead to 4-1.
The game would turn into a pitcher's dual over the final five innings, as both teams combined to collect six hits and Concordia took the opener by the final margin of 4-1.
Winckler, Conard, and Castronovo would each collect a hit, while Marchbanks went the distance and suffered her fifth loss of the season.
Concordia was led offensively by Paz and Vickaryous with three hits each, while Renee Santos went the distance for the Cavaliers allowing one unearned run on three hits to go along with a game-high seven K's.
GAME #2 – CORBAN 4, CONCORDIA 0
In the finale, neither team would score until the top of the second inning when Feb belted her second home run of the season over the center field fence for an early 1-0 lead for Corban.
One inning later, the visiting Warriors would extend their lead to three runs (3-0) thanks to a Feb two-run single with the bases loaded allowing junior Abbie Pynch (Stayton, Ore.) and Jackson to score.
Winckler would hold Concordia's offense to a mere four hits over the opening six innings before Corban pushed its lead to four runs (4-0) in the top of the seventh inning when Pynch scored on a Cavalier throwing error to cap the game's scoring.
Feb and Jackson led the Warriors' offense with a pair of hits each, while Winckler went the distance for her fourth complete game of the season.
Concordia's Amy Aicher registered a team-high two hits, while Allison Gunter went the opening 3.0 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits before turning the ball over to Jordyn Brown for the final 4.0 innings of work.
With today's split, Corban moves to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Concordia goes to 8-10 overall and 1-5 in league games. The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday, March 29th, against conference rival Northwest Christian beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Morse Field in Eugene.
