FINAL RESULTS (COMING SOON)
BANKS, Ore. – Corban's men's golf team captured its first-ever team title thanks to a combined 5-over 293, while junior Joey Duwe (Kingston, Wash.) brought home the fourth title of his career Saturday at the Willamette Invitational played at Quail Valley Golf Course.
The Warriors outlasted three NCAA Division III teams – Pacific, George Fox, and tournament-host Willamette – en route to capturing the team title and posted the second sub-300 round of the season coming within a mere 10 strokes of the program's single-round record.
Duwe shot a 3-under 69 to win the tournament by four strokes over Pacific's Max Bonk, while fellow juniors Chris Dudley (Boise, Idaho) and Joey Ziogas (Salem, Ore.) carded a pair of 1-over 73s to go along with a 6-over 78 by junior Michael May (Salem, Ore.) to round out the team scoring for the Warriors. Senior captain Steve Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) posted a 9-over 81, but did not count in the overall team score.
In the overall team scores, Corban won the event by eight strokes over Pacific (301). Rounding out the team totals were Willamette (363) and George Fox, who did not turn in a complete team total with only two Bruins participating in the tournament.
Individually, Dudley posted his career best 18-hole score bettering his previous low by three strokes. Ziogas tied his career-low that was set earlier this season in the opening round of the Pacific Invitational in September, while May came within two strokes of equaling his career-best that he shot in the second round of the season-opening Concordia Invitational in September.
This is the fourth time this season that Duwe has carded a 69 over an 18-hole event, while in the process dropping his season scoring average to a team-low 73.73. The third-year Warrior also dropped his career scoring average to 74.67, which remains the all-time low in program history.
Corban will return to the links on Friday, March 11th, in an 18-hole dual match against NCAA Division III member Pacific beginning at noon at Creekside Golf Club in Salem.
