No. 24 Oregon Tech Blanks Beacons in Sweep
2-0 Game 1, 8-0 Game 2
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech pitchers Jackie Imhoff (9-3) and Taylor Schmidt (12-2) threw back to back shut-outs as OIT swept a Cascade Conference double-header from Northwest Christian University winning the first game 2-0, and the night cap 8-0 in a 5 inning mercy rule shortened game. With the sweep Oregon Tech improves to 21-6, and 7-1 in the CCC. Northwest Christian falls to 7-15, and 1-7 in the CCC.
In game 1: Imhof struck out 10 batters giving up just one hit and one walk over seven innings.
Northwest Christian starter Brooke Davis kept the Lady Owls off the scoreboard through the first 4 innings until she elevated a fastball to Tech’s Taylor Schmidt who hit her 4th homerun of the season to deep left field to lead off the fifth inning to break up the scoreless game. OIT would add an insurance run in the same inning as Brittany Cherry doubled to center scoring Danielle Sayres from second.
Janelle Cromie led the Tech offense with two hits in the game.
In game 2: Schmidt spread 5 Beacon hits over 5 innings giving up one hit per inning in grabbing her league leading 12th win of the season. Oregon Tech pounded out 14 hits and 2 homeruns in the 5 inning game scoring 3 times in each the second and third innings then ended the game with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th.
Kayde Schaefer led the Tech offense going 3 for 3 scoring 3 times while driving 3 runs and hitting her 2nd homerun of the season. Short stop Shauna Collins continued her attack at the CCC record books going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Sara Coates chipped in 2 hits and Bree lArson added her 3rd homerun of the season.
For Northwest Christian, Dani Gehrke led the Beacon offense with 2 of the team’s five hits.
No. 24 Oregon Tech will now host RV. Corban University (15-9), (7-3) Saturday morning at 11:00 am at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex in a battle for first place in the CCC. Northwest Christian will travel to play at Southern Oregon (8-11), (5-3) in Ashland, Ore. at 11:00 am on Saturday.
