BOX SCORE

The Thunderbirds score three runs in the third inning, and that would prove to be the difference as each team scored two the rest of the way. Josh Saio took the loss for Concordia, yielding five runs on seven hits with five walks in six innings pitched. David Otterman picked up the win for UBC, limiting CU to one unearned run on three hits in six innings.

Greg Densem and Andrew Firth opened the third with back-to-back singles, and both runners advanced on a double-steal. With first base open, the Cavs intentionally walked Keaton Briscoe to load the bases, and a pair of singles by Blake Carruthers and Kevin Nickel scored three runs to give UBC the early lead.

The T-Birds added another in the fourth, as Densem tripled to right and Firth brought the runner home with a groundout to second. British Columbia’s final run came in the seventh when Carruthers opened with a triple and scored on Madsen’s sacrifice fly.

Concordia scored one run in the first and another in the eighth. Tommy Whalen walked to open the inning, and Cameron Baker took over at first as a pinch runner. Tim Reavis followed with a double, and Baker scored on an error by the UBC left fielder. The Cavs’ second run came when Odie Hollingshed led off the eighth with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Mike Cero single.

Hollingshed and Cero each finished the game with two hits for Concordia, while Densem and Carruthers each tallied two hits for UBC.
