8 Named Red Lions Players of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Eight student-athletes in the sports of baseball, softball and track and field have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for the period April 4-10, the conference commissioner announced.

Softball

Pitcher – Corban University’s Makenzie Marchbanks, a senior from Sweet Home, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week. In three appearances covering 15 1/3 innings, she scattered eight hits, allowed just two earned runs, walked five and fanned 24. She picked up two victories.

Honorable mention: Nickayla Skinner, College of Idaho; Jackie Imhof, Oregon Tech; Jordyn Brown, Concordia.

Player – Corban University’s Stephanie Nippert, a sophomore from Rocklin, Calif., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week. Nippert batted .636 (7 of 11) and hit three home runs to break the Corban single-season school record. Nippert, who has 14 homers this season, belted a walk-off home run in a 2-1 win over College of Idaho.

Honorable mention: Cassie Bishop, Northwest Christian; Kalie Kurdy, College of Idaho; Jennifer McDonnell, Eastern Oregon; Ashleigh Larson, Oregon Tech; Sam Genskay, Concordia.

Baseball

Player – College of Idaho’s Gavin Gamboa, a senior first baseman from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week. Gamboa was 7 of 13 (.538) at the plate, including three extra-base hits.

Honorable mention: Colin Stock, Oregon Tech; Odie Hollingshed, Concordia; Kyle Taylor, Corban.

Pitcher – Concordia University’s Mitch Ludtke, a junior from Bellingham, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week. In his lone appearance, Ludtke worked five innings and allowed just three hits and one earned run as the Cavs defeated No. 9 University of British Columbia.

Honorable mention: Jesse Vermillion, College of Idaho; Nick Stiltner, Corban.

Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track – College of Idaho’s Paul Sartin, a senior from Meridian, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Male Track Athlete of the Week. Sartin clocked an NAIA automatic qualifying time in the 10,000 meters (31:17.25) at Western Oregon University’s John Knight Invitational. His time also set a C of I school record.

Honorable mention: Tyeson Wood, Warner Pacific; Ryan Booth, Eastern Oregon; Kwame Agyemang, Southern Oregon; Jameson Futter, Concordia; Kyle Croft, Corban.

Field – Southern Oregon University’s Max Perry, a junior from Florence, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Male Field Athlete of the Week. Competing at the Chico State Invitational, Perry finished third in the hammer (168-6), fourth in the shot put (50-0 ½) and seventh in the discus (147-0) against mostly Division II competition. His shot put and discus marks were PR’s.

Honorable mention: Andre Archer, College of Idaho; Jason Waltman, Northwest; Andy Munsey, Eastern Oregon; Justin Schlaht, Concordia; Jordan Hatfield, Corban.

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Track – Eastern Oregon University’s Alma Garcilazo, a junior from Umatilla, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Female Track Athlete of the Week. Competing at the WAR IV meet in Spokane, Garcilazo earned an NAIA automatic qualifying time in the 1500 meters (4:37.30). She also clocked a time of 57:45 in the 400.

Honorable mention: Sora Klopfenstein, College of Idaho; Amy Nelson, Southern Oregon; Lauren Moran, Concordia; Eliya Kohl, Corban.

Field – Concordia University’s Gabriella Dixson, a sophomore from Battle Ground, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Female Field Athlete of the Week. Dixson won three events at Western Oregon University’s John Knight Invitational. She had marks of 48-6 ¼ (shot put), 155-2 (discus) and 170-5 (hammer). Her discus mark leads the NAIA, and her hammer throw mark was a season best.
