ASHLAND, ORE. -- Eastern Oregon scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the opening game of a rain-shortened doubleheader with Southern Oregon today at University Field. Eastern won the first game 4-2 and the second game was postponed due to rain until tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Eastern leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the third.

With the victory, Eastern improved to 7-26 overall and 2-17 in conference action. Southern Oregon dropped to 14-16 overall and 11-8 in league.

Southern Oregon looked to be cruising in the opener behind the pitching of senior Karri Johnson.

Johnson allowed just one hit through five innings and the Raiders had a 2-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Irene Barrantes in the first and an unearned run in the fourth.

But Eastern came alive in the sixth inning with singles by Mariebeth Watanabe, Emily Anderson and Sarah Jackson and a double by Suzie Espinoza to take a 4-2 advantage.

SOU responded by putting a runner on in the bottom of the sixth and two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't get the runs across.

Katie Moy led the SOU offense with two hits, including her eighth double of the season.

Watanabe had two hits for Eastern and Jenn McDonnell held SOU to five hits to pick up the victory.

In the second game, Eastern scored three runs in the top of the first before SOU chipped away with a pair of runs. Rain finally made conditions unplayable in the middle of the third inning.
