Raiders Rally To Earn Split
ASHLAND, Ore. -- Southern Oregon scored a run in the seventh to tie the game and won it in the eighth to win a weather-delayed second game and salvage a split with Eastern Oregon today at University Field The Raiders won the game 4-3 in eight innings. The game was suspended Sunday afternoon with Eastern Oregon leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the third.
Southern Oregon is now 15-16 overall and 12-8 in Cascade Conference play. The Raiders host William Jessup in a non-conference battle Tuesday at 2 p.m. Eastern dropped to 7-27 overall and 2-18 in conference.
Before the rain on Sunday, Eastern jumped on the board with three runs in the top of first, highlighted by a two-run single by Sarah Jackson.
Southern Oregon cut the lead to 3-2 with a two-run double by Sierra Anderson.
The game was suspended going into the bottom of the third and the two teams picked up there this afternoon.
Neither team could get much going offensively off starting pitchers Jenn McDonnell and Jordyn Kurtz.
Finally, the Raiders broke through in the seventh.
Walks to Sarah Wharton and Rayna Okimoto put runners on for Kurtz with two outs. The junior came through with a liner to left that dropped, allowing Wharton to tie the game at 3-3 on an unearned run.
Kurtz shut down the Mountaineers in the top of the eighth and in the bottom of the eighth, Southern struck again with two outs.
Anderson started the rally with a single to right. Wharton followed with a double down the line in left and a walk to Katie Moy loaded the bases.
The bases didn't stay loaded long as Anderson broke from third as a McDonnell pitch rolled away from the Eastern catcher and scored the winning run.
Anderson had two hits for the Raiders and Kurtz picked up her eighth victory of the year.
Wailana Buchanan had two hits for the Eastern.
