10 Earn Red Lion Player of the Week Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – Ten student-athletes in the sports of golf, baseball, softball and track and field have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week, the Cascade Collegiate Conference office announced Tuesday.

All 10 winners are now eligible for NAIA Player of the Week honors in their respective sports.

BASEBALL

Pitcher – College of Idaho’s Levi Mitchum, a 6-1 senior from Yakima, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week. In his lone appearance, Mitchum tossed eight innings of shutout ball in a 3-1 victory over Concordia. He scattered five hits, walked one and fanned six.

Honorable mention: Justin White, Corban; Josh Saio, Concordia.

Player – College of Idaho’s Jarel Lewis, a 6-0 sophomore catcher from Boise, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week. Lewis batted .500 (7-14) and hit the go-ahead two-run triple in a Game 2 win over Concordia. Lewis had two doubles and two RBI’s during a 4-0 week for the Yotes.

Honorable mention: Jonathan Ramirez, Corban; Curt Cosby, Concordia.

SOFTBALL

Pitcher – Southern Oregon University’s Jordyn Kurtz, a junior from Tacoma, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week. Kurtz went 3-0 with a 1.22 ERA, defeating No. 17 Oregon Tech twice and College of Idaho (receiving votes) once; In 23 innings, she struck out 15 batters.

Honorable mention: Nickayla Skinner, College of Idaho; Jackie Imhof, Oregon Tech.

Player – Southern Oregon University’s Kathryn Moy, a junior outfielder from Oceanside, Calif., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week. Moy batted .571 with two doubles and one triple as the Raiders swept No. 17-ranked Oregon Tech and College of Idaho, and split with Eastern Oregon.

Honorable mention: Nikki Shumway, College of Idaho; Ashleigh Larson, Oregon Tech.

GOLF

Male – Concordia University’s Jed Dalton, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week. Dalton fired rounds of 74-71-72 to earn medalist honors and help lead the Cavaliers to the CCC Championships Presented by Diamond Woods.

Honorable mention: Joey Duwe, Corban; Tyler Falk, Northwest Christian.

Female – College of Idaho’s Trish Gibbens, a sophomore from Caldwell, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Female Golfer of the Week. Gibbens captured medalist honors at the CCC Championships Presented by Diamond Woods, carding rounds of 80-78-73. Her individual title helped her secure CCC Player of the Year honors.

Honorable mention: Katie Baker, Corban; Sunny Powers, Concordia.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Field – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Bryant Sentman, a senior from Cottage Grove, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Male Field Athlete of the Week. In his first decathlon competition of the season, Sentman won the Mt. Hood Multi-Events with a total of 6,684, just 129 points shy of his total when he finished runner-up at last year’s NAIA Championships. Sentman won four events: shot put, high jump, javelin, and discus.

Honorable mention: Robbie Haynie, Eastern Oregon; Mark Hanson, Corban; Bo Johnson, Concordia.

Track – Concordia University’s Chris Wilson, a senior from Odessa, Texas, has been named the Red Lion Male Track Athlete of the Week. Wilson broke his own school record in the 110 high hurdles, clocking a time of 14.74 at the Lewis & Clark Invitational. The mark bettered the NAIA Championship automatic qualifying standard.

Honorable mention: Ryan Booth, Eastern Oregon; Caleb Goins, Corban; James Johnstone, Southern Oregon; Tyeson Wood, Warner Pacific; Sam Robison, Northwest Christian.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Field – Concordia University’s Sharayah Kenady, a sophomore from Salem, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Female Field Athlete of the Week. Competing at the Lewis & Clark Invitational, Kenady set a school record in the hammer with a mark of 175-11, good for the No. 4 position on the NAIA’s season performance list.

Honorable mention: Anne Barnett, Eastern Oregon; Christy Mosier, Corban; Blair Wilkinson, Northwest Christian.

Track – Concordia University’s Stephanie Persaud, a senior from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Female Track Athlete of the Week. Persaud won two individual races and contributed to a pair of relay victories at the Lewis & Clark Invitational. She won the 100 (12.26) and 200 (25.61), and contributed to winning efforts in the 400 relay (48.06) and the 1600 relay (3:52.63).

Honorable mention: Alma Garcilazo, Eastern Oregon; Jocelynn Smith, Corban; Seena Frantz, Southern Oregon; Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Stephanie Hescock, Northwest Christian.
