Imhof Pitches No. 24 Oregon Tech to Sweep of Corban
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech offense hit 7 doubles and 4 homeruns including a grand slam to power No. 24 Oregon Tech (23-6, 9-1) past RV Corban University ( 15-12, 7-5) in a Cascade Conference double header at the OIT Softball Complex Saturday afternoon.
Senior Jackie Imhof struck out 10 Warrior hitters in picking up the win in game one; then came into game 2 in the third inning to go the final 3 and 2/3 to pick up her second win of the day. In all she pitched 8.2 innings, striking out 12, giving up just 6 hits to improve to 11-3 on the season.
In game 1: Oregon Tech scored 5 times in the bottom of the 2nd inning on 3 hits. Corban would answer with 2 runs of their own in the top of the third on 2 hits. The Lady Owls scored 3 more runs in the 3rd then ended the game scoring 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the 5th to win 10-2.
Brittany Cherry and Taylor Schmidt led Tech with 3 hits each, Cherry also had 3 RBI.
Tamara Feb led Corban with 2 hits in the loss.
In game 2: Oregon Tech got on the scoreboard first, scoring 1 run on 2 hits in the bottom of the 1st.
Corban would then erupt for 3 runs in the 2nd inning as Emma Winckler hit a 3-run towering homerun to left field to give the Warriors the 3-1 lead.
Corban would then chase Oregon Tech starting pitcher Taylor Schmidt out of the game in the 3rd when Rachel Conard hit a 3-1 fastball over the left field wall for a 4-1 Corban lead. (Schmidt however would be heard from again in the bottom of the inning)
Tech’s Jackie Imhof entered the game and shut down the next 2 hitters to get the game to the bottom of 3rd. That’s when the Oregon Tech’s offense heated up, scoring 4 runs on 5 hits including a Taylor Schmidt 3-run homerun to give OIT the lead 5-4.
Oregon Tech broke the game open scoring 6 runs on 5 hits including a grand slam off the bat of Kayde Schaefer to make it a 11-4 Tech advantage.
Corban kept battling, scoring again in the top of the 5th as Conard hit her 2nd homerun of the game to left-center.
Tech’s Ashleigh Larson hit her 8th homerun of the season to make it a 12-5 game.
The lady Owls would then hit back to back to back singles in the bottom of the 6th and finally put the game away when Sara Coats hit sacrifice fly to center field scoring Schmidt from 3rd to win it 13-5 (8 run mercy rule)
Ashleigh Larson led the Tech offense with 4 hits in 4 at bats, scoring 4 times and driving in 3. Kayde Schaefer added 3 hits in at bats including the grand slam.
Oregon Tech will now host Southern Oregon University (10-11, 7-3) Wednesday, April 6th at noon at the OIT Softball Complex. SOU currently sits in 2nd place in the CCC standings.
