CALDWELL, Idaho - Concordia University put The College of Idaho softball postseason hopes on life support, as the Cavaliers rallied for a doubleheader sweep of the Coyotes, tallying 2-1 and 4-1 wins at Symms Field.

All-American Renee Santos tossed a one-hitter in the opener, while Jordyn Brown tossed six-plus innings of shutout relief in Game 2, hitting the go-ahead home run for the Cavaliers (20-12, 13-7 CCC).

Game 1 saw a pitchers’ duel between Santos and the Lady Yotes (22-16, 12-10) Nickayla Skinner – with a scoreless game broke up in the fourth. Kalie Kurdy blooped an infield single behind the pitchers’ circle and stole second and third. With two outs, Britney Croner rolled a harmless ball to short, but Amy Aicher’s throw was high, allowing Kurdy to score, giving the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.

It would stay that way until the seventh, as Robin Gawlista led off with a bunt single, with Aicher following with a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away, putting runners at the corners. After a strikeout, Brown executed a perfect suicide squeeze, as Gawlista scored ahead of the throw home to tie the game. After a single by Mallory Callahan, Kayla Vickaryous blooped an RBI single into centerfield to bring home the winning run.

Santos fanned 11 in the victory, while Skinner struck out five in the tough-luck loss.

Game 2 saw the Yotes jump on the board in the first, as Nikki Shumway reached on a dropped third strike, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a wild pitch.

After squandering chances in the first and third, CU took the lead in the fourth, as Brown hit a one-out, two-run homer to left-center. Kyndell Andrews added an RBI single in the fifth and Cameron Way lined an RBI single in the sixth for insurance, as Brown limited the Yotes to five hits and struck out two for the win.

Andrews and Sam Genskay each had two hits for the Cavs, while Sammy Dodge had a double and single for the Yotes.

The C of I closes out the regular-season on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Eastern Oregon – needing help in other CCC games to have a chance at the three-team CCC Tournament.
