EUGENE, Ore.—Making their second appearance at Hayward Field this spring, Concordia tallied more than a dozen new or improved NAIA National Championship qualifying marks at the Oregon Relays this weekend.

With two more weeks before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, 24 Cavaliers have registered NAIA automatic qualifying marks while 15 more have reached provisional status. Concordia will resume competition nest week by traveling to the Pacific Twilight held in Forest Grove, Ore., on April 29-30.

Posting the team’s lone automatic qualifier during the event was senior Alice Taylor in the 5,000. Already an owner of an ‘A’ mark in the 10,000, Taylor crossed the line with more than 20 seconds to spare with a 17:25.96.

The Cavaliers recorded five new provisional marks over the two-day meet. Catherine Sims tackled the ‘B’ standard in the 200 and 400 with times of 25.06 and 57.29, respectively. In the 100, Stephanie Persaud cruised to a career-best 12.16, snipping a full tenth of a second off her previous all-time mark.

In the field events, Ben Cogdill cleared 15-7 in the pole vault while Branko Djuricic completed a successful attempt with the bar resting at 6-8 in the high jump to score provisional marks. Closing in on the school record of 6-8 1/4, Djuricic’s mark is his second NAIA qualifier of the season as he had also reached the provisional barrier in the triple jump

Five additional CU competitors improved upon already high-ranking marks on the NAIA outdoor performance list. On the track, Junia Limage ran a lifetime best 2:12.19 to win the 800 while Andria Scheese ran a career-best 4:33.27 in the 1,500 and Lauren Moran took nearly five seconds off her previous 2011 best in the steeplechase with a 11:13.70. A returning NAIA All-American in the event, Eunice Makinde shaved .01 off her season-best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.62.

The lone school record to fall in Eugene, the CU women’s 1,600-meter relay squad took second place overall with a 3:50.15 to erase the former record of 3:50.45 which was set less than a month ago at the Stanford Invitational.
