9 Recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nine student-athletes in the sports of softball, baseball, track and golf have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances from April 18-24.
The honorees:
Softball
Player – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Brittany Cherry, a senior outfielder from Pasco, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week. In six games, Cherry batted .588 and helped the Owls clinch the CCC regular season championship. Cherry was 10 of 17 at the plate, with one double, one triple, one homer and nine RBIs.
Honorable mention: Brooke Davis, Northwest Christian; Emily Anderson, Eastern Oregon; Sam Genskay, Concordia; Stephanie Nippert, Corban.
Pitcher – Concordia University’s Renee Santos, a senior pitcher from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week. Santos had two wins and a save for the Cavaliers, working 16 2/3 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out 33 batters. She limited the opposition to a .091 batting average.

Baseball
Player – College of Idaho’s Izaac Garsez has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. In four games, Garsez batted .533 as the Yotes went 3-1 in a four-game series vs. 14th-ranked University of British Columbia. Garsez set a C of I record with his ninth triple of the season, and he tied the Yotes’ career mark for triples (18).
Honorable mention: Trent Smith, Oregon Tech; Tim Reavis, Concordia; Kyle Taylor, Corban.
Pitcher – Concordia University’s Brett Ferguson, a senior pitcher from Maple Valley, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Ferguson tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout against Corban, spacing four hits, walking none and striking out four.
Honorable mention: Chad Yeggy, College of Idaho; Aaron Jorgensen, Oregon Tech.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field
Track – Eastern Oregon University’s Damion Flores, a sophomore from Myrtle Point, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Male Track Athlete of the Week. At the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Flores won his section of the 5,000 meters, clocking a season-best of 14:32.25. He has the top time in the CCC and the eighth-best in the NAIA this season.
Honorable mention: Seth Bridges, Northwest; Paul Sartin, College of Idaho.
Field – Southern Oregon University’s Max Perry, a junior from Florence, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Male Field Athlete of the Week. At the Oregon/California Border Clash, Perry won the shot put (52-7 ½), hammer (177-9) and the discus (151-10). His marks in the shot and hammer surpassed the NAIA automatic qualifying standards. Perry leads the CCC in the shot put and discus, and ranks third in the hammer.

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field
Track – Eastern Oregon University’s Karlee Coffey, a sophomore from La Grande, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Female Track Athlete of the Week. At the Oregon Relays, Coffey hit an NAIA auto mark in the women’s 5,000 meters, recording a time of 17:00.81 to finish sixth overall. Her mark leads the CCC and ranks third in the NAIA.
Honorable mention: Paige DeLapp, Northwest; Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Andria Scheese, Concordia.
Field – Concordia University’s Gabriella Dixson, a sophomore from Battle Ground, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Female Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time this season. Dixson scored two huge personal records at the Oregon Relays, upping her discus mark by more than two feet (162-8) and her hammer mark by five feet (174-5). Her discus mark gives her a 10-foot lead over her nearest competitor in the NAIA ranks, and her hammer mark ranks sixth in the NAIA.

Golf
Men: Corban University’s Joey Duwe, a junior from Kingston, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week. Duwe had the CCC’s highest individual finish at the NAIA national qualifier in southern California, firing rounds of 75-74-72—221 to finish seventh among 60 competitors.
Honorable mention: Jed Dalton, Concordia.
