Concordia Blanks Corban in Twinbill Sweep
PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia University limited Corban to total hits in a pair of shutout wins, downing the Warriors 10-0 and 1-0 Friday afternoon at University of Portland’s Joe Etzel Field.
With the wins, Concordia improves to 15-29 overall and 8-22 in the NAIA West. Corban falls to 9-40 overall and 4-25 in regional play.
The two teams will close out a four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday at Joe Etzel Field, with the first game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Concordia scored a run in the first, and that would be all Tyson Kisselburg needed as he pitched seven shutout innings to pick up the win. The Cavaliers added insurance runs in the middle of the game, but Kisselburg limited the Warriors to three hits to pick up the win. Trevor Winsor took the loss for Corban, yielding six runs on 10 hits in six innings.
With one out in the first, Curt Cosby walked and advanced to second on Sean Myrom’s single through the left side. Jared Young’s two-out single off the first base bag brought him home for the 1-0 CU lead. The Cavs added a second run in the fourth. Tommy Whalen walked and Cameron Baker pinch ran over at first. Mike Cero sacrificed Baker to second, and he advanced to third on Tim Reavis’ infield single and scored on Odie Hollingshed’s infield single.
Concordia stretched the lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth. With two outs, Young, Whalen, Cero and Mike Dickman hit consecutive singles to put two more on the board. The Cavs took advantage of two Corban errors in the sixth to make it 6-0. Hollingshed reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. Cosby reached on a throwing error and advanced all the way to third, with Hollingshed coming in to score an unearned run. Myrom followed with a double to center to score Cosby.
The Cavaliers put the game away with four more runs on six hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh. Dickman doubled to right center and advanced to third on Reavis’ fly out. Brady Miletich brought him home with a single down the right field line. Cosby singled through the right side, and he and Miletich each advanced on a passed ball. Myrom brought them both home with his third hit of the game, advancing to second on the throw home, and he scored on Riley Tubbs’ single to center.
Myrom and Young each finished with three hits, while Dickman and Reavis tallied a pair each for the Cavaliers. Cosby scored three runs for CU, while Myrom drove three runners in.

A pitchers’ duel went all the way to the final frame in the seven-inning second game. Mitch Ludtke pitched the complete-game win for Concordia, limiting Corban to three hits and a pair of walks with 10 strikeouts. Nick Stiltner took the loss for the Warriors, yielding one unearned run on five hits in 6.1 innings.
The game was scoreless entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Riley Tubbs opened the frame with a single through the left side, and with one out he advanced to second on a wild pitch. The Warriors intentionally walked Tommy Whalen, and Stiltner hit Mike Cero with a pitch to load the bases with one out. With Mike Dickman at the plate, a ball got past the catcher and Tubbs came in from third to score the winning run in walk-off fashion for the Cavaliers.
Jared Young finished with two hits for Concordia, the only player with multiple hits in the contest.
