CALDWELL, Idaho - Brian Gaylord hit two home runs and drove in nine runs, helping No. 14 ranked Lewis-Clark State sweep today’s doubleheader from The College of Idaho, winning 20-12 and 6-5, at Wolfe Field.

Gaylord went 5-for-10 in the windswept twinbill, as the Warriors (32-13, 21-8 NAIA West) tied a season-high for runs in the opener, then hung on for the win in the late game.

L-C led 3-1 in Game 1 before a seven-run outburst in the third blew the game open – getting a two-run single from Aaron DeGuire and a grand slam from Gaylord to cap the frame.  Gaylord added a two-run double in the fifth to push the lead to 14-1, before the Yotes (29-17, 19-11) rallied.  Kyle Douglas hit a three-run homer in the fifth and added a two-run triple in the sixth to get the hosts within 19-9.  A Dan Harrington two-run single in the ninth got The C of I within 20-12, but couldn’t get closer.

Tyrell Poggemeyer went five innings to pick up his seventh win of the season for the Warriors, as Kevin Lovelace went 4-for-6 in the win – as the two teams combined for the most runs between the teams since 1971.  Douglas went 3-for-4 with five RBI and Jeffrey Harris added three hits in the loss for the Yotes.

Game 2 saw L-C take advantage of a pair of C of I errors early in the game to plate three runs – which would loom large in the end.  An error on a routine two out grounder to first prolonged the third inning, with Gino Casini following with a two-run single, giving the Warriors a 4-1 lead.

The Yotes would trail 6-3 in the eighth, but loaded the bases with one out – scoring a run on an Izaac Garsez hit by pitch and another on an infield out, but Zach Arneson struck out Harris with the tying and go-ahead runners in scoring position to get out of the threat.  The C of I would get a runner to second with one out in the ninth, but Arneson got Jarel Lewis on strikes and coaxed a ground out by Douglas to notch the save.

Boise native Tyler Barrett picked up his seventh win for L-C, going seven-plus innings, striking out six.  Casini had three of the Warriors 11 hits in the game.  Tanner Hodges went 3-for-4, with Lewis and Douglas each recording two hits in the loss, while Bobby Wassmann went the distance for the Yotes, allowing just three earned runs.

The two teams will close out the NAIA West season tomorrow, meeting in a doubleheader at Noon.
