10 Named Red Lion Players of the Week
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Ten student-athletes in the sports of softball, baseball, track and field and golf have earned Red Lion Player of the Week honors for the period March 28-April 3, the conference office announced.
The honorees:
Softball
Player – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Kayde Schaefer, a junior catcher from Beaverton, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week. In four games, Schaefer was 7 of 9 (.778) at the plate, with one double, two homers and eight runs batted in. She helped lead OIT to doubleheader sweeps of Northwest Christian and Corban. She had a grand slam in a 13-5 victory over Corban. Shaefer also scored six runs.
Honorable mention: Tamara Feb, Corban; Rayna Okimoto, Southern Oregon; Megan Mazanec, Northwest Christian; Ali Paz, Concordia.
Pitcher – Concordia University’s Renee Santos, a senior from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week. Santos tossed a pair of shutouts, allowing just six hits in 12 innings of work as the Cavs defeated College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. She struck out 19 batters and issued just three walks.
Honorable mention: Emma Winckler, Corban; Jackie Imhof, Oregon Tech; Nickayla Skinner, College of Idaho; Jordyn Kurtz, Southern Oregon.
Baseball
Player – Oregon Institute of Technology’s Brad Walters, a 6-0 junior from Gresham, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week. In four games, Walters batted .571 (8 of 14) and drove in nine runs as the Owls posted a 3-1 record. Of Walter’s eight hits, six went for extra bases, including three home runs and three doubles.
Honorable mention: Steven Blum, Corban; Curt Cosby, Concordia.
Pitcher – Corban University’s Nick Stiltner, a 5-11 junior from Eugene, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week. In three appearances, the right-hander allowed just two runs (one earned) in 11 2/3 innings of work. He also fanned eight batters.
Honorable mention: Zack Earle, Oregon Tech; Mitch Ludtke, Concordia.
Men’s Outdoor Track & Field
Track – Southern Oregon University’s Ryan Sorenson, a junior from Sheridan, Wyo., has been named the Red Lion Male Track Athlete of the Week. Sorenson earned an NAIA automatic qualifying standard in the 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 30:45.45 for a third-place finish at the Willamette Invitational. His mark is the second fastest in SOU history.
Honorable mention: Caleb Goins, Corban; Seth Bridges, Northwest; Connor Abdelnoor, Evergreen; Dominic Bolin, College of Idaho; Damion Flores, Eastern Oregon; Marcus Nelson, Concordia.
Field – Eastern Oregon University’s Robbie Haynie, a junior from Nampa, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Male Field Athlete of the Week. Participating in the Willamette Invitational, Haynie recorded the NAIA’s top mark this season in the pole vault (16-2 ¾) and won the high jump with a leap of 6-8.
Honorable mention: Joash Pangilinan, Corban; Andre Archer, College of Idaho; Eric Whalen, Concordia.
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field
Track – Eastern Oregon University’s Karlee Coffey, a sophomore from La Grande, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Coffey cruised to a win in the 10,000 meters at the Willamette Invitational, posting an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 35:07.83.
Honorable mention: Bianca Davis, Corban; Paige DeLapp, Northwest; Karissa Carlson, Evergreen; Hillary Holt, College of Idaho; Seena Frantz, Southern Oregon; Brittany Arch, Northwest Christian; Linsie Michels, Concordia.
Field – Concordia University’s Gabriella Dixson, a sophomore from Battle Ground, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Female Field Athlete of the Week. Dixson posted the NAIA’s top mark in both the shot put (46-11 ¾) and discus (156-4) at the Willamette Invitational while winning both events. She also finished fifth in the hammer (161-2).
Honorable mention: Abigail Van Hoogen, Corban; Kailene Rollins, Evergreen; Hailey Bull, College of Idaho.
Golf
Men: Northwest Christian University’s Tyler Falk, a freshman from Springfield, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Male Golfer of the Week. Falk captured medalist honors at the College of Idaho Invitational and helped NCU to its first-ever team title in a CCC event. He fired rounds of 70-68-72 for a 54-total of six-under 210, a school record.
Honorable mention: Steve Landis, Corban; Kyle DeLorey, College of Idaho; Will Snow, Concordia.
Women: Concordia University’s Sara Molyneaux, a junior from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Female Golfer of the Week. At the College of Idaho Invitational, Molyneaux led wire to wire and held on for a two-shot victory. It was her second straight event win.
Honorable mention: Caley Hubert, Corban; Trish Gibbens, College of Idaho.
