Larson’s Slam Helps No. 21 Oregon Tech to Sweep

(Klamath Falls, Ore.) Oregon Tech’s Ashleigh Larson hit a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 2nd inning in game 2 as No. 21 Oregon Tech (25-6, 11-1) won its 8th and 9th games in a row and swept a Cascade Conference double header from Southern Oregon University (10-13, 7-5) 8-4 and 6-4 at The Oregon Tech Softball Complex.

Senior Jackie Imhof went the distance in game 1 for her 12th win of the season and then pitched the final 3 innings in game 2 picking up the save for Taylor Schmidt who improved to 13-2 with the win.

In game 1: Southern Oregon got on the scoreboard in the first inning when after a Brooke Springer double, Kathryn Moy hit an 0-2 fastball over the left field wall to put SOU up 2-0.

Tech would tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the 2nd when Jess Plummer singled up the middle then with one out catcher Kayde Schaefer hit her 4th homerun of the season to right field. Tech added 2 more runs in each the 3rd and 5th and 6th innings to win 8-4.

Ashleigh Larson and Brittany Cherry each had 2 hits to lead the Oregon Tech attack.

Irene Barrantes had 2 hits for SOU.

In game 2: Tech got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 1st as Andria Wheatley singled with 1 out, then with 2 outs, Jess Plummer homered to put OIT up 2-0.

Oregon Tech loaded the bases in the 2nd inning and with 2 outs Ashleigh Larson hit a long towering grand slam to left field putting OIT up 6-0.

SOU would chip away at the Tech lead, scoring once in the 3rd, and twice in the 4th then Irene Barrantes homered to make it a 6-4 game in the top of the 5th.

Oregon Tech’s Jackie Imhof came into pitch the final 3 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3 as she picked up her 3rd save of the season.

Taylor Schmidt had 2 hits to lead Oregon Tech with Kathryn Moy and Sarah Wharton each having 2 hits for SOU.

Oregon Tech will play host to Concordia University this Saturday at 11:00 am.
