STAYTON, Ore. - Gavin Gamboa had three extra base hits and Kyle Douglas clubbed a grand slam homer in the opener, while Mitch Dame improved to 6-0 on the season with a four-hitter in the nightcap, as The College of Idaho swept a doubleheader from Corban University, 11-8 and 7-2, at Emery Field.

The wins for the Coyotes (21-13, 11-7 NAIA West) improved the squad to 7-0 this season against Corban, heading into tomorrow’s doubleheader.

Game 1 saw the Yotes jump out to an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning – getting a Jesse Dodd sacrifice fly and a Todd Griffiths RBI single in the second to get on the board, an Izaac Garsez RBI ground out and a Gamboa RBI double in the third to push the margin to 4-0, with Douglas launching his long ball to right center in the fourth to double the lead.

The Warriors (6-25, 1-14) would try to get back in the game, as a Trevor Winsor three-run shot pulled Corban within 8-4, but Gamboa responded with a homer of his own in the fifth, as the Yotes held on for the victory.

Despite giving up 13 hits, Levi Mitchum gutted out six innings to pick up his fourth win, as Griffiths and Gamboa each went 3-for-5 and Tanner Hodges added two hits in the victory. Steven Blum added three hits in the loss for Corban.

Game 2 was dominated by Dame, who tossed a complete game, striking out three to tie for the NAIA West lead in wins. The senior’s lone mistake was a two-run homer by Nate Hiebert in the third inning that tied the game at 2-2.

The Coyotes would rally for five runs in the fifth inning to put the game away, as Jarel Lewis roped a one-out homer and Dodd ripped a two-run double in the frame.

Lewis, Dodd, Gamboa, and Garsez each had two hits in the win – with Garsez extending his hitting streak to 15 games. No Warrior recorded a multi-hit game, as Corban failed to get a runner to third base after the third inning.

The two teams will close the series tomorrow at Noon – with the games being played in Keizer, Ore., at Volcanoes Stadium (home of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Class A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants), as Warrior Field in Salem is unplayable.
