FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team landed more automatic marks Saturday at the Pacific University Twilight meet.
Robbie Haynie won the men’s pole vault in emphatic fashion. The junior continued his phenomenal season with a top mark of 17 feet, three inches. The mark won the meet, set a meet record, stadium record, and broke the EOU school record set by Shawn Trimble in 2004.
The mark is not only tops the NAIA so far this season, but it is the 19th best at any collegiate level this year. Haynie is the only athlete to clear 17 feet in the pole vault in 2011. The Nampa, Idaho native claimed the indoor national pole vault title in March.
Alma Garcilazo raced to a second place finish in the women’s 400 meters. The junior’s time of 56.46 matches the school record set by Mardee Potts in 1991. Garcilazo’s mark is third in the conference and ninth in the NAIA. The Umatilla, Ore. native later ran a new personal record in the women’s 200 meters, 26.13. The mark was fifth Saturday, sixth in the conference, and is ninth on the EOU all-time list. Cory O’Neill and Kadie Booth each ran conference championship qualifying times.
Brittany Sims had a second place in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.61. The mark is an NAIA automatic qualifying mark. The time now puts teammate, Kimmy Moore, and Sims as one and two in the conference in the event.
Dustin Cloud ran the fourth fastest time in the conference so far this season in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. His mark of 15.36 was third Saturday and a new personal record. Hans Rolle hit a conference qualifying mark in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:54.53. The freshman’s mark was eighth place, but is fourth currently in the conference.
The conference’s current leader in the women’s pole vault, Maddison Stapleton, finished fourth in the event Saturday with a mark of 10 feet. Anne Barnett had a third place finish in the women’s shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 11 inches.
Eastern has a week off before it travels to Gresham, Ore. for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships at Mt. Hood Community College from May 12-14.
