KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University Director of Athletics, Gary McIntosh, announced the hiring of John Bacon as the first head coach of the women’s softball program at the university. Bacon will officially take the reins of the program in December 2011. The team will begin play in the CCC in the spring of 2013.

“I am extremely excited to have John Bacon as our first NU softball coach,” commented McIntosh. “John brings a wealth of knowledge in softball to the program. He is enthusiastic about starting this team and building the program here at NU. I believe the love John has for NU along with his passion for softball will be a great formula for success.”

Bacon brings over 9 years of fastpitch coaching experience having been a coach at various levels of select youth softball and is currently head coach at Kirkland Junior High School and the Patriots U16 travel team. His teams have competed in the ASA Western National Championships, the NSA Western World Series and the Colorado Fireworks tournament. Bacon is currently on the faculty at Northwest U. as an Assistant Professor of Business at the school. He earned both his B.A. and MBA at Northwest University and a Doctor of Management (ABD) at George Fox University in Oregon.

“It is a privilege to be chosen to be the inaugural coach for the softball program at Northwest,” said Coach Bacon. “There are such rich traditions in NU athletics that we will strive to build into the fabric of Eagle Softball. Coaching at Northwest also allows for the creation of a total athlete; one that is physically superior, mentally capable, and spiritually strong.” Bacon concluded, “Again, I am very privileged to be a part of the lives of the young women who will come and help build Eagle Softball and watch them become the person God has intended them to become.”
