Cavs Add Four Auto Qualifiers at Mt. Hood
COMPLETE RESULTS
GRESHAM, Ore.—In the final meet before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships, Concordia University won 11 events while six individuals either upgraded their provisional qualifying status to the NAIA Outdoor Championships or posted brand new qualifying marks at the Mt. Hood Track & Field Festival held on Saturday.
Already the owner of the school record in the triple jump, Branko Djuricic cleared 6-9 3/4 in the high jump to establish his second school record of the season. Djuricic won the event by three inches and erased the former record of 6-8 1/4 which was established last season. In the process, Djuricic improved upon his season-best to earn the NAIA ‘A’ standard in the event.
A trio of Cavaliers improved upon their ‘A’ performances this season. On the track, Eunice Makinde slashed .06 off her 100-meter hurdle time with a 14.56 and Catherine Sims covered the oval in 55.98 to substitute the 56.20 which stood as her previous season-best time in the 400. In the discus, Kayla Xavier added to her season-best toss with a 145-7.
Concordia also received three new NAIA qualifying marks from athletes that have already hit the ‘A’ standard in another event. Andria Scheese, already automatically entered in the 1,500, scored a career best in the 800 with a 2:13.52, Junia limage, already qualified in the 800, ran a 56,58 in the 400 and Anthony Lantz heaved a 51-11 in the shot put for his second ‘A’ qualifier after an auto mark in the hammer throw earlier in the season.
“It was a good tune-up meet for conference,” CU head coach Randy Dalzell said. “We got a few more marks that people can use for the CCC while trying to keep everyone healthy and ready to compete next week. It’s going to be a battle on both sides as the conference continues to get stronger each year.”
Concordia events wins came from Stephanie Persaud in the 100, Eunice Makinde in the 100 Hurdles, Catherine Sims in the long jump, Kayla Xavier in the shot put, Gabriella Dixson in the discus and hammer and the women’s 400-meter relay team. On the men’s side, Cory Pena captured the 800, Chris Wilson the 110-meter hurdles, Jameson Futter the long jump and Djuricic in the high jump.
