EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University Athletic Department announces the resignation of Athletic Trainer Jarred Gibson, ATC. Gibson, who has been with NCU since 2006 has accepted a position as a Cast Technician at Slocum Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, “As a part of our Athletic Management Team, Jarred has played a key role in the expansion of our athletic program and assisting with the University’s decision to move into the NAIA and Cascade Collegiate Conference. While we are very happy for Jarred and his new position with Slocum, we will very much miss him as the face of NCU Athletic Training.”
Gibson, who has over 15 years of athletic training in his background, was hired in February of 2006 as the first full-time Athletic Trainer at NCU. In that time he has played an integral role as a member of the Athletic Management Team, working on committees related to budget development, student retention, and critical incident response. Gibson has taught weight training and health occupations classes and was a past nominee for the Cascade Collegiate Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year Award.
Gibson said, “While I have sincerely enjoyed being a part of the NCU community, I am excited for the position at Slocum which will allow me to spend more time with my family. I will cherish the friendships I have made with co-workers and I will miss the opportunities to mentor student athletes as I have during the past five years.”
Gibson is heavily involved in the athletic training community. He is a member of the Northwest Athletic Trainers Association (NWATA) and the National Athletic Trainers Association. As the current Secretary and Treasurer for the Oregon Athletic Trainers Society (OATS) he has help develop and organize presentations for the Annual OATS Symposium.
“Jarred has been much more than just the Athletic Trainer for Northwest Christian,” said Anderson. “Jarred has truly been a friend; a friend to our student-athletes when they need him the most, a friend to our coaches when they just need someone to listen, and a friend of mine during all the peaks and valleys that we have experienced together during the past five years”.
A national search for NCU’s next Athletic Trainer will begin immediately. Interested parties are encouraged to email Corey Anderson (canderson@nwcu.edu) or find more information on the job posting at http://nwcu.edu/about/employment/staff/athletic-trainer.aspx
